Team Astral Takes Home USD 80,000 and the Crown at FWC 2024
The SM Mall of Asia Music Hall served as a battleground last Saturday, October 12, 2024 as FlyFFers, mall goers, and gamers witnessed the final battles for the 2024 FlyFF World Championships. Eight champion teams from all over the world flew to Manila for the grand showdown where over USD 110,000 in cash and in-game items were at stake!
Going into the tournament, Astral was on a hot streak, blazing through their matches and securing a +1 Match Point advantage as well as a finals slot. In the Loser’s Bracket, it seemed like both SUPAHOTCREWXD from Finland and TheBoss from the Philippines were dead set on fulfilling their Cinderella stories. Both teams clawed their way back from the brink and faced off in a best of one match.
Early in the bout, the boys from US and Finland wanted nothing but blood, but the Pinoy crew did not back down from the challenge and managed to finally secure the coveted finals spot. TheBoss did not have time to celebrate though as the French, US, and Chilean team members of Astral waited in the wings, fully rested and ready to go. It was time for the best of five finals match.
Coming in hot, TheBoss secured a quick game 1 over Astral, but the team was unfazed. Despite losing their winner’s bracket advantage and the Pinoys breathing down their necks, Astral never lost their composure, and proceeded to give all FlyFFers present as well as the thousands of fans around the world watching the livestream a performance on how to win with class.
Over 800 event attendees witnessed ULQ, SLOTHX, MK4 and KEKRA of Astral raise the championship trophy high and took home USD 80,000. TheBoss received USD 20,000 and Shadow pocketed USD 10,000.
